Undoubtedly the most popular destination on Penang Island is the Penang Hills. You can either take an 8-kilometre hike to the top or go on the railways. Either way, when you get to the top of the hill you will experience a breathtaking view of the whole island.

The best time to go is just before sunset. During this time, you can see Penang island during the day, experience a beautiful sunset and see what the island looks like at night.

2. Kek Lok Si Temple

Kek Lok Si means ‘heavenly temple’ and it’s the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. The Kek Lok Si Temple is divided into 3 main parts. It has a temple, pagoda and a statue of the Goddess of Mercy.

The temple is decorated in reds, yellows, oranges, and golds. This is a combination of Chinese, Thai, and Burmese (Myanmar) architecture. You can easily spend hours here exploring the beautiful gardens and temples.
